- I agree that preferences should be saved in a stand-alone file. Why
- confuse the user, or make the file grow to huge proportions? The only
- thing that should be in the APP_DEFS.SYS file should be keyboard
- assignments, and possibly some very general user interface
- suggestions from the user.

-
- How will the editor know about unique menu entries/program features that
- need keyboard shortcuts? I'm not sure. And, luckily, I'm not the one
- writing it. I think programs could be distributed with a data file for
- the configuration program so that it knows what options/features the
- program supports, and the "plain-english" name of the program. Does this
- sound feasible? I had not really given the matter much thought.

-
- Maybe not, but I do. What if I decide to share my configuration with
- someone in Germany by sending the APP_DEFS.SYS file through the
- Internet. Funky characters will get filtered/changed/butchered that
- way. Also, some editors will not even DISPLAY those characters.

-
- On TOS 1.4? I wish. And why should the user have to remember (and then
- type) these ASCII codes? It would be much easier and simpler to type
- "<alt>A" then ALT+065. People with TOS 1.0/1.2/1.4/1.6/1.62 would have
- to install LetEmFly to get this feature, which is not always desirable.
